Samuel
W. Bartholomew, Jr.
Mr. Bartholomew is a founder and chairman of
Stokes Bartholomew Evans & Petree, P.A..
After graduation from West Point, he was an
airborne ranger and was commissioned as an armored
cavalry officer, serving tours of duty in Europe,
Panama and Vietnam. |
Mr. Bartholomew
graduated from Vanderbilt Law School in 1973,
Order of Coif and was a Law Review Editor. From
1974 to 1984 he was an adjunct professor, teaching
at Vanderbilt Law School and Owen Graduate School
of Management at Vanderbilt University. He is
past chairman of the Vanderbilt Law School Dean's
Council and has served on the Law School Alumni
Board.
In 1984, President Reagan appointed Mr. Bartholomew
to the Board of Directors of the Federal National
Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae). He has served
on the Board of the Tennessee Housing Development
Agency and was appointed a Federal Land Commissioner
by the U. S. District Court. He has served on
several corporate Boards, including SunTrust
Bank of Tennessee and Corrections Corporation
of America, and presently serves on the Board
of Union Planters Corporation.
Mr. Bartholomew has been active in state economic
development and served as Director-General of
the first Tennessee Trade Mission to France
and has served on the Board of the Tennessee
European Economic Alliance, Trustee of the Tennessee
Technology Foundation, Tennessee Economic Education
Council, Chairman of the Nashville Business
Incubation Center and currently serves as general
counsel to Tennessee Tomorrow, Inc.
Professionally, he is a member of the Nashville,
Tennessee and American Bar Associations and
a Fellow in the Tennessee and Nashville Bar
Foundations. He is past chairman of the Legal
Committee of Airports Council International.
Active civically, Mr. Bartholomew currently
serves on the Boards of the Tennessee Sports
Hall of Fame, Nashville YMCA, Middle Tennessee
Football Foundation, Sergeant York Foundation
and the Family Foundation. He is past chairman
of the Nashville Rotary Club, Salvation Army,
St. Thomas Hospital, West Point Society and
the Tennessee U.S. Olympic Committee and served
on the Boards of the Nashville Area Chamber
of Commerce (three terms), Tennessee NFL Committee,
Cumberland Museum, American Cancer Society,
M.S. Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes,
Tennessee Family Institute, Nashville Sports
Council, Music City Bowl, First Priority of
America and Tennessee Police Athletic League.
Politically, Mr. Bartholomew served as chairman
of the 1984 Tennessee Reagan-Bush Committee
and was a delegate to the 1984 Republican Convention.
He was State Campaign Director for Senator Howard
Baker in 1972 and various other positions with
Senator Baker, Lamar Alexander and other Republican
candidates since 1970. He also co-chaired Lamar
Alexander's 2002 U.S. Senate Campaign. Mr. Bartholomew
is past chairman of the Governor's Prayer Breakfast,
served as State Chairman of the Vietnam Leadership
Program and Vietnam Memorial and was presented
the Governor's Outstanding Tennessean Award
in 1984. He was vice chairman of the 2000 Billy
Graham Crusade in Nashville. |
